Product Description

ANTIQUE EARLY AMERICAN PATTERNED GLASS MANHATTAN RUBY STAINED POWDER/CANDY DISH

  • Manhattan Ruby was made over 100 years ago, primarily between 1902-1919 by the United States Glass Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
  • As I wrote in the condition description area:  This piece is absolutely stunning!  I've never seen a piece of stained ruby in such amazing condition.  Usually the colors have faded or the color is sometimes completely gone, but not this one.  It's perfect!  I compared everything I could find to make sure that it was truly what I've claimed it to be and I can find nothing that doesn't make it so, BUT I'm not an expert on Manhattan glass, so please look at the pictures carefully.  It really is in pristine condition and this piece is very hard to find.
  • This powder dish/candy dish features many intricate patterned shapes and lines.  We’ll start with the bottom of the base and move all the way to the top of the handle.   The bottom of the clear glass dish is filled with raised hexagonal dots, similar to hobnails, each within a diamond with a shared side with the hobnail beside it.  These overflow to the side of the circular dish that next has indentations around the glass within a red ruby colored band.  Each looks like a large perfectly shaped oval thumbprint. Next comes a fanciful wavy edge which also has some hexagonal hobnails at its edge.  The inside of the dish is so cool because you see all the underside of the hobnails.  We immediately saw one hexagon with very faint lines.  Can you see it too?
  • Next comes the beautiful crystal clear patterned lid!  Looking from the top of it, you can see patterned indented lines with an arrow pointed end (rays) closest to the edge.   There are eight clear sections that form a sun-like look because of the rays each is formed by and the pattern formed by them that is indented for each section.  Then there are two rows of hexagonal hobnails like those on the bottom.  Lastly comes the fancy knob that you hold onto to lift it up.  Again, it has the rays, some hexagonal hobnails and one clear spot at the top.  I just think this dish is a thing of beauty!
  • 4.75" wide x 3.25" tall x 4.75" deep
