Product Description

VINTAGE MARK ESSIG STONEWARE HANDTHROWN POTTERY "WEST JEFFERSON OHIO" PLATE

  • This piece of handcrafted folk art stoneware is handthrown pottery and our piece is in excellent condtion.
  • Mark Essig Pottery was made in York, Pennsylvania and this particular plate was made in 1996.  From what I’ve found, it doesn’t seem like they’re in existence any longer.
  • He made mostly rustic, primitive looking stoneware pottery in the Westerwald style popular to early settlers in Pennsylvania, which was salt glazed gray pottery with cobalt designs, which is exactly what ours is.
  • Our gray salt glazed pottery piece has a centralized leaf, surrounded by squiggles and the words, West Jefferson, at the top and the word Ohio at the bottom.
  • Plate measures 8.75" diameter x .5" tall
