Product Description

VINTAGE CERAMIC STRAWBERRY DISH #717 BY CEMAR POTTERY OF CALIFORNIA

  • Vintage handpainted candy, nut, or decorative dish
  • Excellent condition
  • Dish is in the shape of a strawberry, painted a strawberry red color with green leaves and even has bumps representing seeds, showing their attention to detail.
  • Smooth shiny glaze
  • Dish measures 5.25" wide x 1.5" tall x 6.25" deep
  • Made by Cemar Pottery of Los Angeles, California founded in 1935 by two former Bauer employees, Cliff J. Malone and Paul Cauldwell, who decided to branch out on their own. When WW2 restricted imports, US potters popped up to keep up with the public’s desire for handmade items.  Cemar was one of 13 potters who were members of the California Pottery Guild in 1952.  Unfortunately, it seems they closed shortly after in 1955, at least as Cemar Pottery Their pottery is very sought after by Californians and retro mid 20th century collectors.
  • California has always been known for their pottery products.  With over 1000 listed companies over time, how could they not be.  If you want to see an excellent listing with “where, when, what” information, go to liveabout.com and learn more about “Who’s Who in California Pottery.”
