VINTAGE FENTON TRANSLUCENT HAND PAINTED BLUE MATTE GLASS TRINKET DISH WITH LID
This collectible glass trinket dish was made by Fenton in the United States.Fenton Art Glass Company, who had been in business since 1905 was started by brothers Frank and John Fenton. This famous company became the largest manufacturer of handmade colored glass in the United States. Can you imagine? After more than 100 years, the third and fourth generation of the Fenton family decided to cease production of art glass, although a company in Ohio bought their molds and may produce Fenton pieces in the future. In 2017 the buildings were demolished and Williamstown Elementary was built on the site in Williamston, West Virginia. We found a wonderful site while searching for information. Spruce Crafts had so much fabulous information and excellent pictorial examples. If you’re a Fenton lover, this is a site you must visit: https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/fenton-art-glass-identification-value-guide-4066121
Made of handblown blue glass, what makes this trinket dish unique is the matte finish on the glass rather than the usual smooth finish of glass. This matte finish is on all of the surfaces except for the inside of the lid.
The trinket dish is an elongated oval shape with vertical rounded column design on the exterior and on the lid creating a ruffled edge. The dish is elevated from the surface it rests on by four feet.
Atop the lid is beautifully hand painted dusty pink rose buds with olive green leaf bundles, as well as gold toned leaves and three smaller indigo blue flowers that have pale banana yellow middles. This display is surrounded by a fluffy white background and a line of crisp white dots.
Found on the interior of the dish on the lid are the words “hand painted by B. Huggins”.
With no chips, cracks, or scratches, this piece is in excellent condition! It also has its original Fenton sticker.
It measures 4.5” wide x 3.25” tall x 3” deep and weighs 8 ounces before packaging.
